Information Technology (IT) Policy
Being Responsible Online
This policy helps everyone use technology safely and respectfully at SCAS.
Access to the internet and SCAS network is supervised and monitored throughout the school day. Devices are only used for tasks directed by the students’ teachers. Staff in the physical learning environment will carefully monitor appropriate online engagement through shoulder surfing, and our IT department monitors, filters, and logs students' online Presence.
Respect Others:
Don't use your phone or devices to bully, threaten, or harass others.
Taking pictures or videos of others without permission is prohibited at any time.
Post pictures of other students on websites or social networking sites without the formal, written consent of the parents of such students;
Stay Safe Online:
Don't share your password with anyone.
Be careful about what personal information you share online.
The school may check your school account to keep everyone safe.
School Devices and Property:
Follow teachers' instructions about using phones and devices on trips and activities.
Don't damage school property or disrupt others' learning.
Copying software or music illegally is not allowed.
Parents and Emergencies:
Parents can contact the school office to reach their child.
Students can request permission to call parents from the office.
Filters
All internet activities undertaken while connected to the SCAS network are monitored. The SCAS network filters all internet traffic, allowing filtered access to websites. It uses a combination of white lists, reputational categorisation, and blocked lists to assist in filtering website content. All SCAS network activities are logged and can be reviewed and reported on by our IT Department.
Consequences
Breaching this policy may result in limitations on your technology use or other consequences.
Abusive, threatening or hurtful emails, posts, messages, pictures or behaviours will not be tolerated and will result in immediate corrective action. The police will be notified at the Principal’s discretion.
Disrupting others’ learning or damaging others’ property will result in restorative justice whereby the perpetrator will bear the cost of replacing the property and repairing the damage.
Remember that all electronic information sharing cannot be guaranteed to be private. The EdTech team and/or Principal at SCAS may review, delete or recover files (including emails) at any time. Students can also expect teachers to have access to read student files in particular instances.
