Music Tuition

To complement the Music Program at St Columba, the School has a very talented and dedicated group of instrumental and vocal teachers offering private tuition for students of St Columba Anglican School and its related business entities. Tutors are available across a range of instruments including woodwind, strings, brass, piano, keyboard and drums, as well as drama and performance tutors.

Parents can enrol their child in tuition by contacting our Music Tutors directly via the contact information listed below.

Secondary students tuition classes will be on a rotation timetable where possible. Private tutors have specific times they are able to book Primary students, i.e. Kindergarten to Year 4 from 12.00pm, and Years 5 and 6 between 9.00am and 11.00am, or between 2.00pm and 3.30pm.

Please note that it is the responsibility of families and students to notify tutors in advance to reschedule lessons due to school subject assessments/exams, excursions, incursions, camps or other activities that may impact the lesson time. Please be mindful that the fees for Private Tuition on campus is an agreement between families and the independent Private Tutor.

Security of Instruments

All instruments - where on hire from the school or privately owned, should be marked clearly with the student’s full name and contact number both inside and outside the case. Students should secure their instruments inside the Secondary Music storeroom or classroom when not in use.

Natasha Marshall - Piano

I haven’t known a life without a piano by my side, and continue to enjoy creating music by myself and with other people. Inherently, becoming a private music teacher had always been a dream, and I’d completed numerous grades in both the theory of music and classical piano to achieve this. My first piano teaching employment began in 2018 at the Port Academy of Music, where I enjoyed tutoring school-aged beginners and helped develop their pianistic skills. Extending to 2019, I have had two years experience as a piano teacher, supporting my students and supervising at various concerts throughout the year. Through this employment and my own studies in classical piano, I have become familiar with both AMEB and ANZCA syllabi.

As an ex-student of St Columba Anglican School, I was able to participate in a variety of co-curricular choirs and instrumental ensembles, for instance, Iintombi Zicula, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Concert Band and Da Camera. My commitment to these ensembles has increased my passion for music and further developed my musicianship.

I am currently enrolled to study a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science at Charles Sturt University, 2020. Alongside this education, I aspire to participate in community ensembles and share the gift of music education with aspiring piano students.

  • 8th Grade piano (Pass with honours) - AMEB

  • 4th Grade theory of music - AMEB

Lesley Priest - Strings

My profession is that of instrumental teacher; primarily violin, as well as viola.

I attained accreditation as a violin teacher having studied at the Suzuki talent

Education Institute in Japan. More recently, I completed the requirements for a

Bachelor of Music degree. I participate in Teacher Training and Professional

Development programs annually to maintain my abilities as both a teacher a violinist,

as well as to gain insight into various methodologies and broader musical concepts.

I have been a peripatetic string tutor at SCAS since the school commenced. As well

as teaching students privately during school hours, I have been engaged as a tutor

in the weekly Year 3 String classes, as well as director of the Primary String

Ensemble. My approach with each student entails teaching correct posture, developing listening

skills (pitch, tone, rhythm), reading of notation, and fostering student’s curiosity and

interest. Engaging in the learning of a musical instrument stimulates the mind as well

as stirring the emotions. The discipline of regularly playing the instrument is

enhanced through selecting repertoire that establishes good technique and is

methodical. I have come to recognise that each student proceeds at their own pace,

assisted by encouragement from the teacher, family and peers and personal effort.

Victoria Stanmore - Vocal / Strings

I am passionate to expand and inspire young musicians, with an embodied and holistic teaching style. Since 2014 I have been guiding students in an engagement with the music around and inside them, past the dots on the page. My decision to study and work full time with music was sparked at The Scots School Albury. I completed my Bachelor of Music in Violin at the University of Newcastle in 2017, under Chris Bearman, Olena Zaporozhets and Nino Bisori. My self-composed major work Breathing was a structured improvisation involving violin, voice, and movement. Through 2018-2020 I have been studying a Master of Music in Choral and Orchestral Conducting with Erik Westberg and Petter Sundkvist. I am excited by musical interpretation, improvisation, audience and space engagement, and the individual ‘voice’ of each musician within their expansive contexts.
