Before and After School Supervision
The School has a duty of care to ensure our student's safety on campus. For this reason, it is a requirement that all students are supervised at all times whilst on the school grounds. Please note the supervision times as detailed below.
Parents dropping off or picking up students outside of these times will be contacted by the relevant Head of School.
Morning supervision
Teacher playground supervision commences from 8.20am each morning.
Primary students arriving between 7.50am and 8.20am must go to the SOLA until playground supervision begins at 8.20am. Students will be collected from the SOLA for co-curricular activities that commence at 8.00am.
Secondary students arriving between 7.50am and 8.20am may use the Dawson Library for quiet study or reading. At 8.20am, they can remain in the Library or proceed to their year areas outside.
No students are to be on-site before 7.50am. The only exception are students who are enrolled in and attending Before School Care. Students on-site before 7.50am will be taken to Front Reception and parents contacted.
The only exceptions are:
Year 11 and 12 students with timetabled, before-school classes.
RAD Ballet students on scheduled class mornings (see RAD Ballet page for more information).
Students who are participating in co-curricular activities that are scheduled as commencing before 7.50am.
Kindergarten students will have separate arrangements at the beginning of the year to ensure a smooth transition to school.
All Primary co-curricular students are collected from the SOLA at 8.00am
Afternoon supervision
Note: Kiss and Drop, front oval, bus lines and OSHC are the only options for collection from the school.
Primary School student supervision ceases at 3.45pm, and all students must be collected by 3.45pm from the Kiss and Drop area. Students who have not been collected by 3.45pm (and are not registered for OSHC) will be escorted by teaching staff to the School Front Reception and the School will contact parents.
All Kindergarten to Year 6 students who are not being collected by parents or caregivers at the end of the school day, or catching a bus after school, need to be registered for our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service.
Children can walk or ride home from school, but parents should consider their age and ability to manage the risks of crossing roads.
Secondary students will have access to the Dawson Library every afternoon until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and until 4.00pm on Fridays, for quiet study or reading.
Kiss and Drop Car Line
Our car line will flow more quickly if a few simple rules are followed:
Do not get out of your car. Staff will assist students.
Do not ask children to get into the car prior to the line moving to the top of Kiss and Drop (or Bus Lane for Stage 1)
Only Stage 1 parents can wait in Kiss and Drop prior to 3:15pm.
Only Stage 1 parents can enter the school through the Right Lane (Bus Lane).
Stage 2 and Stage 3 parents must use the Left lane and wait until 3:15pm to enter Kiss and Drop.
Have a name sign in your visor. Please contact Reception if you need a replacement.
Students entering cars on the outside lane are at risk of being hit by buses and cars driving past. We ask that if possible that children enter cars through the left side doors only.
Kiss and Drop closes at 3:45pm. Parents are contacted by Reception if their child/ren are not collected.
Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)
Before School
The Columba Cottage Before School Care services operates from 6.30am to 8.30am, Monday to Friday, with breakfast between 7.00am and 7.30am. This service is run on the School campus and is available to all SCAS students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Families wanting to utilise Before School Care will be required to enrol their child/ren for OSHC, on either a casual or permanent basis.
After School
The OSHC Service provides nutritious afternoon tea snacks served to the students on arrival. Kindergarten to Year 2 students participate in the OSHC program, while students in Years 3 to 6 have the option of engaging in Homework Help between 3.30pm and 4.30pm from Monday to Thursday. Primary students not participating in OSHC's Homework Help cannot access the Library after school and parents will be called to collect those children.
Most families will be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) entitlements on their OSHC fees and we encourage you to complete the Child Care Subsidy Assessment to determine what entitlements you are eligible for. It is very important for families new to CCS to take the time to work through the information (on the above link) as there are many factors that will influence the level of CCS applied to your family circumstances. Once the approved rate of CCS is known, families are charged a gap fee (or out of pocket expense). This is the difference between the full fee charged for the session and the amount of CCS paid on your behalf.
There are two OSHC session options available for Primary students. Full session care is available until 6.00pm and short session care until 4.30pm.
The OSHC service offers the following after school options to families:
Kindergarten to Year 2 Care (3.20pm to 4.30pm)
Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will participate in OSHC activities such as games, sport, craft and outdoor play. Afternoon tea supplied.
Homework Help in the Library (3.20pm to 4.30pm)
A fully qualified teacher will be working with our students in Years 3 to 6 with their homework. Students must be registered with OSHC to attend. Afternoon tea supplied. Full session fees will be charged for families accessing care beyond 4.30pm. Homework Help is capped at a maximum of 15 children per session.
Out of School Hours Care (3:20pm to 6.00pm)
Games, sports and craft will be supervised by qualified staff for Kindergarten to Year 2 students and Years 3 to 6 students requiring extended care. Afternoon tea is provided, and OSHC is open until 6.00pm.
See the OSHC Fee Schedule available on the Columba Cottage website for more information regarding fees. Families wanting to utilise any of these options will be required to enrol their child/ren for OSHC. To register for OSHC, or to know more, families are asked to contact Columba Cottage Reception on (02) 6581 4433. Children are unable to be left at OSHC without a prior booking.
